Abstract:
An earnings conference call is a press conference that corporate mangers hold within 48 hours after an earnings announcement. In this event, managers will discuss earnings of the last quarter and provide outlooks for various business activities for the next quarter (earnings growth, new products, investments, managerial turnovers, M&As, etc). Manager’s presentation will be followed by Q&As with call participants, including people from sell-side brokerages, buy-side institutions and financial media. This PhD seminar will provide students with different aspects of potential research questions for this setting, including those about information disclosure/diffusion in financial markets, strategic behaviors/interactions of participants, as well as labor market implications. Both finance and accounting PhD students are invited.
