OVERVIEW:

The D. E. Shaw group seeks Shanghai-based summer research interns to work with its global fundamental investing groups. This newly created internship will involve high-quality, in-depth engagement with the firm’s investment research, with a focus on China-related investments. We’re looking for talented individuals with unique perspectives to join our inclusive and collegial team. Whether they have an existing passion for finance or are newcomers to the field, candidates should enjoy tackling complex, multifaceted problems. WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY: You’ll be responsible for following and assessing market developments, industry and company fundamentals, and macroeconomic conditions; summarizing that information; and providing detailed analyses and updates to global investing groups. As part of a small, highly skilled team, you’ll take on a range of tasks, including staying up to date on current news and trends, analyzing data from a variety of sources, and performing due diligence on companies and industries. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Candidates should be self-starters with a clear ability to synthesize information. We welcome applicants in their final year of full-time study pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in any field. No previous finance experience is necessary.

• Impressive research skills, an inquisitive attitude, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities are all essential. An interest in financial markets is also encouraged.

• We expect our interns to contribute to multiple ongoing projects requiring superb organizational skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

• Fluency in Mandarin and English is required.
